The dragon (or more commonly referred to as the European Dragon) is a legendary creature that originates from folklore and mythology among overlapping cultures of Europe. These large reptiles were said to be scaly, horned, lizard-like creatures with two wings and four legs. In folktales, dragon's blood often contains unique powers, keeping them alive for longer or giving them poisonous or acidic properties. The typical dragon in Christian culture protects a cavern or castle filled with gold and treasure. An evil dragon is often associated with a great hero who tries to slay it, and a good one is said to give support or wise advice.

In Day of Dragons each dragon has a specific element, which determines its breath, as well as unique passive and/or active abilities.
